Who knew Canada was a popular destination for celebrities? Whether they’re vacationing, enjoying a quick weekend getaway to escape or coming home, these celebs keep coming back to Canada and calling it home. We found some celebrities who own homes in Canada, and some might actually surprise you.

Elton John – Toronto 

Elton John has snagged a penthouse in the heart of downtown Toronto. The recent addition to the iconic singer’s real estate portfolio sits high along King Street in what is described as the “tree house in the sky”. The penthouse is a two-floor unit with three bedrooms that’s around 2,602 square feet with a 600 square foot balcony and terrace space perfect for entertaining. The city’s most anticipated development is not quite done, but we’re sure Elton and his family will love their new home.

Justin and Hailey Bieber – Wellington County, ON 

Justin and Hailey Bieber call Wellington County home when they’re not in LA or in New York. The 9,000 square foot mansion boasts four bedrooms and six bathrooms. The home sits on 101 acres of land, and there is a stunning view of Puslinch Lake. It’s easy to see why the Biebers fell in love with the property and the home.

Cindy Crawford – Muskoka, ON

Muskoka, AKA the “Hamptons of the North,” is a vibe during the summer and attracts many celebrities alike. Supermodel Cindy Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber own a lavish seven-acre property on a private island in Lake Joseph. The cottage is a summer retreat for the famous family where they vacation every year, where they enjoy a lakeside hot tub, fishing, boating and sitting on the dock.

Drake – Toronto

It’s no surprise that the Toronto native built a home in the city that he loves. Sitting in the prestigious and luxurious Bridle Path neighbourhood in Toronto, Drake’s 50,000 square foot mansion is arguably one of the biggest and most popular homes around. The property has also played a key part in the feud between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, with the property featured in Lamar’s “Not Like Us” cover, even leading to an ongoing lawsuit. The house saw completion in 2020 and has many extravagant rooms fit for a multi-award-winning rapper and former Degrassi star. Aside from the all marble entryway, there’s also a studio, a jersey hallway full of NBA players’ jerseys, and an NBA-sized basketball court.

Rachel McAdams – Toronto 

Canadian actor Rachel McAdams owns a 1880 Victorian-style semi-detached house in the quiet neighbourhood of Harbord Village just west of the University of Toronto. The home is charming, fitting for the star of The Notebook and Mean Girls, with its exposed brick and lush garden. It’s also a close walk to bakeries, cafes and restaurants.

Tom Hanks – Muskoka 

Who knew Tom Hanks also owns a cottage in Muskoka. The award-winning actor’s stunning lakeside home sits on Lake Muskoka, a popular destination in the region. It’s said he spends lots of time at his idyllic vacation home during summer or when he spends a long time filming in Ontario. 

Mark Wahlberg – Toronto 

American actor and producer Mark Wahlberg owns a condo unit in the prestigious Yorkville neighbourhood of Toronto. The penthouse was purchased in 2011 and sits in a building with incredible amenities like a wine tasting room, a fitness room and a dog wash station. Aside from luxurious shops and some of the best restaurants, Yorkville also has some of the best parks in the city — we’re sure the Hollywood star has strolled through them while he’s in town.

Ethan Hawke – Guysborough, NS 

Ethan Hawke has been calling Canada home for over 20 years after purchasing a home in Guysborough, Nova Scotia. The Oscar-nominated actor’s getaway home is a 3.6-hectare island has road access from a 60-meter land bridge, and when it was purchased back in 2002, it had two cottages. 

Shawn Mendes – Toronto 

Those from Toronto most likely already know that Shawn Mendes lives in downtown Toronto. In fact, you’ve probably seen him walking around or sitting at a local cafe. It’s no surprise the Pickering native still calls Canada home. The singer is a longtime resident of a high-rise condo near King Street with spectacular views of the CN Tower and Rogers Centre.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and soap actor Lisa Rinna has been vacationing in Muskoka during the summer for years on Lake Joseph’s Governor Island, where her husband — actor Harry Hamlin — family have owned property for over a century! Lake Joseph’s Governor Island is a picturesque, crystal clear water, popular celebrity hub that’s a prime location for luxury real estate.
