Step 1: Measure & Mark Like a Pro

To get the perfect float fit, wrap the pool noodle around the outside edge of your plastic container to measure how much pool noodle you’ll need. Mark the four sides (or corners) with a pencil or your finger — no need to overthink think, it’s meant to be fun!

Step 2: Cut Up Your DIY Floating Cooler

Now, using your serrated knife, cut the pool noodle into four equal pieces based on your marks. And then for the key move: cut a lengthwise slit down one side of each pool noodle piece — just deep enough to slide it over the rim of the plastic container.

This step makes sure the noodles grip securely and float evenly, so that it forms the floaty frame around your container.

Step 3: Create Your Cooler Ring

Slide each cut pool noodle piece onto the container’s rim. Most plastic containers have a small lip — just gently wedge the noodle pieces along each side, forming a floating square (or rectangle, depending on your container shape). You don’t even need glue, magic — right?
