AI technology has become an integral part of many aspects of our lives, and interior design is no exception. Aside from finding inspo on social media or typing away on ChatGPT, you should also consider design-specific AI tools that help users visualize or remodel any room in their home, with some even assisting with home organization. I, for one, had lots of fun experimenting and getting creative with a few of these tools. Read on to check out the results!
What Are Interior Design AI Tools?
Just as the name suggests, interior design AI tools use AI to automatically assist with aspects of interior design — from rendering images and generating design ideas to visualizing and staging spaces in your home (including exterior) with different styles and colour palettes. With so many AI design tools around, let’s explore a few that stood out to us.

Gendo
For a simple AI tool, check ou Gendo. This virtual AI interface may look intimidating, but it’s actually a super easy and intuitive tool that renders any interior design image. Specifically made for architecture and design, renders are done in literally minutes. Gendo also gives you four different images once generated based on your description.
The render feature allows you to create either an interior image or an architectural exterior image. You can enhance the image, change materials and style, and describe it with text. The more detailed you are, the better the image will be.
We prompted Gendo to create this spa-like bathroom with concrete counters, natural wall finishes, an olive tree, a backlit round mirror with a floating vanity and black finishes.
Pros: Gendo gives you different generated options at the same time, and allows you to save your project and return to it to keep on working if you need to.
Cons: Renderings are extremely realistic. So when it comes to actually remodelling or renovating your space, it might be difficult to fully achieve.

SpacelyAI
SpacelyAI offers a ton of different design options. From rendering images based your own space to AI Virtual Staging, Spacely will do the work and design according to your specifications. One of our favourite tools is the Magic to Edit feature. This feature lets you upload a photo of your space (in this case, I went with my bathroom), and edit your photos using natural language.
Magic to Edit lets you change the colour of paint on the walls, the sink vanity and hardware, so we can realistically see its design. I prompted the bathroom to have a floating wooden vanity, sage green walls, a square sink and copper hardware. I appreciate how this feature keeps the realistic image of the space.
Pros: It gives you options and can create a realistic-looking generated image in minutes.
Cons: It takes a few prompts for SpacelyAI to get the image you exactly want.

VisualizeAI
VisualizeAI is another AI design tool you should add to your radar. This tool relies on an existing image, sketch or even floor plan to come up with a rendering. It has a very simple interface, so your desired style can be accomplished. Again, I put it to the test with the same photo of my bathroom. I asked it to transform the space into a coastal bathroom as well as a Zen-inspired bathroom, as seen in photo. Similar to the other AI tools mentioned, we the more detailed the prompt is, the better the result.
With VisualizeAI, you can add finishes or remove certain items. The bottom of the dashboard gives you a whole variety of different image and design tyles. From classic styles like Modern, Minimalist, to more trendy designs like Boho and Scandinavian, there are so many options to choose from to give you inspiration. There is even a history section where you can look at all the designs you’ve created.
Pros: It lets you input text descriptions and pick the desired style of the room. It also gives you three different options for each rendering.
Cons: There are only three free credits available; after that, you need to pay for a subscription plan. The renders also look a bit less realistic than other AI tools.

Planner 5D
If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be an interior designer for a day, this virtual tool is for you. All you need is a computer and an online connection, and Planner 5D is the type of program that takes you into the world of design. Through 2D and 3D layouts of different rooms, you can fully design the blueprint of your dream home. You can also add furniture, different style windows and doors and drag them into the layout. I’m especially fond of their feature that allows you to drag and drop furniture, decor and windows into the rooms, making it an interactive personalized experience.
Pros: Unlike other AI design tools, this one offers an intuitive and interactive experience by having the user search and design the architectural space.
Cons: The free plan has limited options for the types rooms you can fully design.

Home Visualizer AI
Home Visualizer AI is an impressive design tool that reimagines realistic photos and revamps them into a completely new design. There are four features to choose from: Custom, Style Fusion, Auto Style, and Upscale. With Custom, you can customize any photo from their stock images or upload your own. You can ask the program to completely change a room depending on your design requests. It even has an AI creativity scale where you “tweak” the creativity level.
My favourite is the Style Fusion feature, where you can upload any image and blend that style into what it could possibly look like in your home. Whether you’ve dreamed of a cashmere kitchen, a cottage core living room, or an eclectic space, now you’re able to imagine how your Pinterest mood board can come to life.
Pros: There is a Google Find Products feature where you can locate specific decor pieces or furniture in your render with a quick search.
Cons: You have three free renders before you have to pay for the program, and there are a couple of quirks that come up while rendering your image. It’s also a bit slower to render an image compared to other AI tools we tested.
