Renovating a complete vacation property from the inside out is no small task. But doing so under a time crunch and with the watchful eyes of experts and co-hosts Scott McGillivray and Bryan Baeumler? Now that’s a feat.
It’s also a feat that the four teams competing on season 2 of Renovation Resort are handling extremely well so far. In the first half of the season, they’ve tackled the primary bedrooms, bathrooms, the front rooms, great rooms, entryways and kitchens, plus the laundry rooms as a bonus challenge. After four episodes, each team has a coveted win under their tool belts, too. It just goes to show you how talented these duos are.

The Primary Bedrooms and Bathrooms
There was a lot of pressure for the teams to impress Scott and Bryan while setting the tone for their vacation properties on the season premiere. So what better way to dig in than to begin with the primary bedrooms and bathrooms?
Each team put their own stamp on their properties with unique colours, finishes and features. But while overall vision was important, so were the small details. So, as the judges took in the first designs and renovations, they were evaluating the big and the small.
While all of the teams pulled off incredible rooms, it was Melissa and Shannon who truly impressed with their dark and moody bedroom. The intricate feature wall, paired with the dreamy blue finishes, was an instant hit, adding a huge wow factor to the look. The completed space felt large and relaxing, giving all the vacation vibes a couple could ask for.
The bathroom was an extension of that dramatic look, but with a more modern touch. When you’re on vacation, the ensuite should feel like a luxurious addition, and these gold details and beautiful print on the wall certainly felt like an upgrade. Add in double sinks and a walk-in shower, and this was a winning execution.

The Front Rooms and Entryways
With the teams a little more settled in during week 2, it was time to set the tone to the designs by tackling the front rooms and entryways. The entryway is the first thing a renter sees when they arrive, so it needs to pack a punch and be memorable. The front room is equally important, as it’s a chance to provide extra space to the living area and set the vacation property apart from others. Naturally, the teams dove right in.
This week it was Rasheeda and Jake’s time to shine with a gorgeous front room that offered opulence and relaxation. No one would soon forget the intricate detailing on the ceiling and the impressive beams, but this felt like a glam place to relax with a drink or to get cozy in with a deck of cards on a rainy day. Forget the cottage, this room reminded us of a five-star hotel!
That five-star vibe was also present in the entryway, where a thoughtful pattern and matching bench created an instant focal point. These entrances are small, but Rasheeda and Jake made the space feel bigger with mirrored doors leading to the front room across the way. Meanwhile, small details such as the basket, lighting and mirrors resulted in nods of approval from the judges.

The Great Rooms
In week 3, the teams turned their sights to one of the most memorable spaces in any vacation property: the great room. Each team was tasked with carrying through their themes while creating a space vacationers would want to hang out in. Of course, it also had to take into consideration that awesome view.
Although each team put plenty of effort into their designs, it was father-daughter duo Graham and Hollie that created the best great room. The judges were impressed with the attention to details in the builds, while the furniture choices were comfortable and in consideration of a large group. Having a fireplace was a bonus, and the team created one of the best hidden TVs of the competitors with the art above.
As you can see from this view, the design also incorporated thoughtful elements like art and books that renters can enjoy. Extra seating, light and details all added up to a winning look.
The Kitchens and Laundry Rooms
Everyone knows that the kitchen is the heart of the home (or vacation home!) because it’s where people hang out, snack, visit and generally gravitate towards. That made the kitchen designs in week 4 extra important for the competitors to execute well. But, while they were busy putting their kitchens and dining rooms together, they were also given a bonus assignment: complete a laundry room! No pressure.
Heading into the challenge, Chris and Cami were the only ones who hadn’t secured a win. So they were beyond relieved when their whimsical kitchen design blew the judges away and secured their victory. The intricate details in every corner of this design added up to something special, from the hanging pots and pans to the robin’s egg blue on the cabinetry.
The dining room was a natural extension of that space with the built-in banquette seating (including storage space) and hanging baskets. The area was cozy and large for a big family or a group of friends, but it was also intimate thanks to the thoughtful details and accessories that were present everywhere you looked.
That fairy tale vibe even came through in the laundry room, where the duo added a patterned wallpaper and soft brown shiplap to match. A vintage-inspired sink, more baskets and flowers completely brought everything together. Who knew doing laundry on vacation could feel this quaint?
